Now that the weather encourages indoor activity, we have suggestions to advance emergency preparedness with indoor actions. If you need more information on any topic—just ask. We can resend NET Neighborhood News about many of these topics.
Neighborhood and Community Projects/Activities:
- Identify neighbors who may need assistance in urgent and emergency situations.
Learn how you can best help them.
- Check and replenish stored water: 1 gallon per day for 14 days per person.
- Add stored food for each person in your household for 14 days.
- Check and add supplies to your emergency “go bags”.
- Contribute materials to your neighborhood survival caches. Look around and see what supplies you have that may be helpful following a disaster (bandaids, feminine sanitary pads to stop bleeding, scissors, duct tape, splints/old magazines,
- Interested in learning about edible and medicinal plants? Sarah Taylor has agreed to teach a session online. Let us know if you would like to participate.
- Would you like a pair of 5-gallon buckets to make “pee” and “poo” toilets?
- Follow up on those important Shelter-in-Place instructions.
- Make emergency plans for your pets
- Get rain barrels to collect and store water.
- Get a portable solar panel to generate energy for phones, etc., following an emergency.
- Speak up if you’d like a handwashing station that will serve about 20 people in your community. We have about 5 that were built recently that we are willing to distribute. You can use one as a model to build more. And, these can be used at outdoor social gatherings, too.
