PROJECT MANAGER TO PROVIDE UPDATE AT MARCH 6 MEETING
The River Trail project has taken an important, although very preliminary step towards the creation of the River Trail. The River Trail committee has filed an Early Assistance Application with the City. That application starts the process of sorting out all the rules and obligations that apply to the design and construction of the proposed project.
At the Wednesday, March 6, 7:00 PM Linnton general membership meeting, there will be a report on the meetings held with the city regarding the application and the design of the trail.
The application includes drawings of two alternative versions of the trail. An observation platform at the south end of the trail and a staircase to the beach at the north end are shown in those drawings. As exciting as that seems, many legal, regulatory, technical, and budgetary issues are unresolved at this early stage of the plan and there is no guarantee a platform or a staircase will make it into the final plan.
This project received strong support from our legislators and was endorsed by city officials including our Parks Commissioner, Dan Ryan. Such projects are always complicated, but it is reasonable to hope that given such support, this project will succeed and Linntonites will be strolling on the riverfront soon.
