Reporting Odors to DEQ

By Nancy Hiser, Air Quality Committee

A post in the September-October Linnton newsletter under “CEI Hub Actions” included an item explaining that a team at DEQ Cleaner Air Oregon is meeting with us on a regular basis in an effort to address Linnton’s air quality concerns. Because our residents frequently smell foul odors and are not sure what they are or if they are toxic, they should be reported to DEQ.

In the past, DEQ may not have responded to residents’ complaints but we were advised that they will respond if you request a response. Lisa Ball, NW Region Air Quality, has identified a specific person for all of Linnton’s air quality complaints.

Renewing a request of community members to reporting odors:

Individuals can report odors by phone to Bryan Smith at 503-229-5376.

DEQ requests that you include this information if available to best help them.

• time of day

• exact location

• suspected source

• your location

DEQ supposedly has an online form to report non-emergency odors but we have had multiple problems reaching it so suggest you call.

Thank you for doing this to get the attention we need.
