A simple shoutout of thanks to the folks at ODOT for trimming back the street trees planted along the medians of Saint Helens Road through Linnton. The median was a project organized by the Linnton Neighborhood Association some 20 years ago as a means to calm traffic, or in other words, encourage drivers to reduce their speed.
The association, under the leadership of Pat Wagner, successfully applied for a federal DOT grant that funded the street tree medians and the brick rumble pattern on the median through the business district. Our understanding is ODOT was receiving complaints from operators of large vehicles that branches were encroaching the auto lane knocking off side mirrors and antennas.
