By Sarah Taylor, LNA Chair
At the last two Linnton neighborhood meetings in May and July, participants collectively began to form a vision statement for our Neighborhood Association. At our September 7th meeting, we will consider adopting this draft vision hopefully reflecting your input. We will also review vision concepts you shared and invite others to add any last-minute ideas. From a vision we can identify strategies, or action steps, towards making this vision a reality.
A Vision for Linnton
Cultivating a safe multi-generational community, the hills and marinas of Linnton foster stewardship of the bordering forests, rivers and streams while creating places to gather with equitable access to food, transportation and public services within a belief that Linnton residents have a right to clean air, water and land.
In five years, Linnton will have:
• Community play spaces for households with children and dogs
• Safe bike lanes and pedestrian crossings – especially for school children
• River transportation
• Access to the river and beaches
• A reduction in fossil fuel infrastructure – with an emphasis on those near homes, childcare facilities and businesses
• A thriving commercial center and community center
• A resilient community in the face of natural disasters with reduced threats due to wildfire, earthquakes, and inclement weather
• Adequate public transit, including trains for lower Willamette communities
• A resilient community that supports the elderly and people with disabilities
• Complete cleanup of the superfund sites
• Elimination of train noise at rail crossings
• Safe passage for wildlife across the highway
