New Linnton rep sought for Metro Central grant committee

By Brian Hoop

Metro is seeking a new Linnton neighborhood representative for the Metro Central Community Enhancement grant committee. Thanks to Michael Hull who has been representing Linnton for the past several years and is stepping down this year.

Metro Central grants were created more than 20 years ago with the intention of enhancing neighborhoods impacted by the Metro Central transfer facility. The grants support residents within a target area that stretches along the west side of the Willamette River from the Pearl District to Linnton, along with an area around the St. Johns Bridge within North Portland’s Cathedral Park neighborhood.

Grants are awarded on an annual basis by the Metro Central Enhancement Committee, made up of representatives from the surrounding neighborhoods, businesses, and environmental community. The Linnton Community Center and Linnton Neighborhood Association have been frequent beneficiaries.

Committee members are asked to commit to a 1- or 2-year term and can ultimately serve up to 4 years. All members are offered compensation of $75/hour. There are three meetings each cycle starting with the first meeting taking place in September to set funding priorities. Applications are reviewed from mid-October to mid-November followed by two committee meetings in December and January.
