Who to call when median trees are knocked over

By Brian Hoop

If you ever notice one of the St. Helens Rd. median trees are damaged or knocked over, please call Pat Wagner ASAP at 503-475-3731. This helps identify when the damage occurred so Pat can work with Portland Police to identify the driver of the auto, usually a drunk driver, that crashed into the tree. The neighborhood association can collect insurance to pay for replacing the tree.

Many may not know, but the trees planted on the St. Helens Rd. median north of the St. Johns Bridge through the business district, are the responsibility of the Linnton Neighborhood Association. It was our association that secured a federal grant in the early 2000’s for the installation of the medians and brick rumble surface on the turn lanes through the business district as a traffic calming measure.

Every call we receive helps hold drunk drivers’ accountable and discourage them from drinking and driving through Linnton in the future. Unfortunately, with the current shortfall in Police officers in Portland, they don’t always complete accident reports. Your timely phone calls and Pat’s follow-up make it more likely we can track down the perpetrators.
