PROGRESS MADE CLEARING TRASH FROM ILLEGAL CHOP SHOP

By Brian Hoop

Thanks to neighborhood volunteers who took the initiative to contact the City of Portland to report the illegal trash piles, abandoned cars, RV and boats at NW 105th Ave. off of St. Helens Road. Neighbors began noticing abandoned vehicles aligning the street were quickly turning into a makeshift chop shop as the vehicles were stripped and tires began to pile up.

While the site is not completely cleared, much progress has been made. The adjoining homeless encampment appears to also have been abandoned, though some garbage remains. Perhaps we can organize a group effort to secure a dumpster and remove the remaining trash this fall. The Linnton Neighborhood Association already organizes a litter patrol along two miles of St. Helens Rd.
