Big canoe paddle provides residents a close up view of Linnton riverfront

 By Brian Hoop

About fifteen Linnton residents took part in a big canoe paddle September 16 on the Willamette River. The event, sponsored by the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership, is meant to connect Portlanders to the rivers in their communities that are too often inaccessible.

The paddlers got a close up view of the recently completed salmon restoration habitat at the site of the former Linnton Plywood Mill as well as the numerous sandy beaches along our neighborhood’s riverfront. It’s quite a change in perspective being up close to the large cargo ships docked along the shoreline.

Thanks to the Partnership and Metro government, who funded it through a Central Community Enhancement grant.
