Curious what Linnton looks like from the Willamette River and an on-water perspective? Ever paddled in a 29-foot, 12-passenger canoe? This fall Linnton Community members have an opportunity to do both at the same time! For free on September 16th from 5:30pm-8:00pm. The Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership, a local non-profit focused on protecting and restoring the lower Columbia River will be providing a Big Canoe trip to Linnton Community members this fall through a Metro Central Community Enhancement grant.
Linnton Community members will meet at the Linnton Community Center where free transportation (a bus or vans) will shuttle paddlers to Cathedral Park at the foot of the St. Johns Bridge. Paddlers will enjoy a leisurely, approximately 2-hour, Willamette River paddle, past Linnton to Fred’s Marina on Multnomah Channel. Transportation will be provided back to the Linnton Community center.
Though this 2.5-mile long section of the Willamette is quite urban, paddlers will likely see a wide variety of wildlife, pass hulking (anchored) cargo ships, see natural areas being restored, and generally get an up close and in-person look at the Willamette riverbank and Linnton’s shoreline. Paddlers 8 and up, who are willing and able to paddle, are welcome to participate.
